Welcome to the Stuttering Treatment and Research Trust - START
At any one time 1% of the population stutters. This includes children, teenagers and adults. Unfortunately many myths and misconceptions regarding stuttering still circulate. Public awareness is often limited and this can lead to a general lack of tolerance and understanding. Sometimes people who stutter, or their parents, do not know who to approach for help or even that effective help is available.
This is why START exists. Our aim is to increase awareness of stuttering and to provide accurate assessment and effective, best practice treatment for children, young people and adults who stutter. We are also involved in research to further the knowledge base about stuttering and its treatment. It is our mission to be a Centre of Excellence in all the services we provide.
START is a registered Charitable Trust established in 1995.
